Anito / Diwata are the Philippine folklore / legend equivalent.

Mount Makiling in the Philippines is believed to be protected by an anito, "Maria Makiling".
The name Maria was added by the Spanish to make the name more Catholic. Anyway.

Lots of stories about Makiling, some of the most common goes something like this: she provides food, help to people around the mountain and the people over time get greedy and take advantage. She gets angry, stops helping, and disappears.
